Kazakhstan’s transition to the Latin script is a historically significant decision of an international scale
Kazakhstan’s transition to the Latin script is a historically significant decision of an international scale. Today the republic is one of the leaders of the Turkic world. This opinion was shared by Turkish scientists. They say that the new alphabet will allow to a deeper understanding between the Turkic-speaking people. In addition, the transition process will contribute to the development of Kazakh and its integration into world languages.
OZLEM DENIZ YILDIZ, PROFESSOR, INSTITUTE OF TURKIC STUDIES IN TURKEY:
- We welcome Kazakhstan’s transition to the Latin alphabet. It is important that we will have the same letters. I am convinced that your decision will also make a significant contribution to a process of transition of the Kyrgyz language to the Latin alphabet in the future.
Kazakh Diasporas in Turkey and European countries have supported the transition of the alphabet to the new script. Through the Latin alphabet, the language will be available to Kazakhs abroad.
ABDULVAHAP KARA, PROFESSOR, UNIVERSITY OF ARTS IN TURKEY:
- This is especially important for our diaspora in Turkey and Europe. In this part of the world, Kazakhs stick to the Latin alphabet. Therefore, young people who had to learn the Cyrillic alphabet had a difficult situation. Now, European youngsters can read the Kazakh media and books.
Turkey switched to the Latin alphabet on November 1, 1928.
