05.09.2019

An anthology of Kazakh poetry was presented in the capital of Kazakhstan.

It included the famous works of Magzhan Zhumabayev, Mukagali Makatayev, Ilyas Zhansugirov, Olzhas Suleimenov, and other famous local authors.

The collection was published in 1000 copies as a part of the Modernization of Kazakhstan’s Identity program.

“This idea was suggested by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. 30 authors were suggested, but the President selected 13 poets out of this number. The greatest poets of Kazakh poetry such as Magzhan Zhumabayev, Kassym Amanzholov, and Mukagali Makatayev were suggested initially. The list also includes Olzhas Suleimenov and Mukhtar Shakhanov and eleven poets who, unfortunately, passed away,” said Director of Til-Kazyna National Scientific and Practical Center, Alibek Askarov.

The representatives of Kazakh publishing houses, members of the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan, writers, and popular scientists and cultural workers took part in the presentation.

“I think that the event is a good ground for translations because such great works can be recommended to be translated into different languages. I sincerely hope that our poetry will be popularized and find its continuation,” said culturologist, public leader, Murat Auezov. According to experts, the promotion and popularization of Kazakh poetry will encourage national self-consciousness, development of intercultural dialogue and strengthen the spiritual image of our country in the world community.
